Why Make This Recipe

  • Frozen Roasted Broccoli Is Healthy – Broccoli is loaded with nutrients, and the flash-freezing process doesn’t seem to lessen its healthy benefits.
  • The Perfect Time Saver – Roasting frozen broccoli on a baking sheet is perfect when you forget to plan a side dish or need something quick from the freezer.
  • It’s Tasty – Roasted frozen broccoli florets are every bit as delicious as roasting fresh broccoli without all of the work, and it goes with just about any dinner.
  • Almost No Prep Work – Fresh veggies require washing and chopping, and you can skip all of that here.

Ingredient Notes

  • Broccoli – Pick up a bag (or two) of frozen broccoli florets from the freezer section. Frozen broccoli is picked at the peak of perfection, blanched, and flash frozen, so you know you are getting a quality product.
  • Olive Oil – You can substitute your favorite oil and even use extra virgin olive oil when making roasted frozen broccoli.
  • Italian seasoning – Or substitute your favorite dried seasoning blend.
  • Salt – Kosher salt will bring out the natural flavors of frozen broccoli. Do not add salt if your seasoning blend already contains salt.

Expert Tips

  • Preheat both the oven and the sheet pan and place the broccoli on a hot baking sheet.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment. This will prevent the broccoli from sticking, making it easier to turn during cooking. It also makes cleanup easy.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice for a bright flavor.
  • Add a pinch of sugar to help with the caramelization process.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Broccoli needs space so the water from the freezing process has a chance to cook off. Spread out the frozen florets to ensure the broccoli is in a single layer.
  • Broccoli not caramelizing? Set the sheet pan under the broiler for a minute or two before serving to crisp up the edged.

Delicious Variations

  • Swap The Seasoning – Italian seasoning adds lots of flavor to roasted frozen broccoli. But, you can sprinkle with your favorite other seasonings blend or seasonings like black pepper, onion powder, chili powder, or garlic powder.
  • Add Parmesan Cheese – Add a sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan cheese after roasting frozen broccoli in the oven. It adds a nutty, slightly salty flavor to the broccoli florets.
  • Add Crushed Red Pepper Flakes  – Give the frozen broccoli a bit of heat by adding some crushed red pepper.
  • Try Roasting Other Frozen Vegetables – This same method will work for frozen vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, and more.

  • Prep Ahead – There is no need to thaw frozen broccoli before roasting.
  • Store – Leftover roasted frozen broccoli can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze – Freeze in freezer safe bags for up to 3 months. Defrost and then reheat in the oven.
  • Reheat – Reheat in a 400 degrees F oven for 5 to 7 minutes or rewarm in the microwave.  Note: roasted frozen broccoli will not be as crispy when reheated.
