Whether you choose to make your boozy beverages with rum or vodka – or even as virgin mojitos – this fun recipe with homemade mint simple syrup is sure to set just the right tone for your gatherings. It’s even great for prepping in advance for a terrifically easy and amazingly delicious cocktail.
Ingredients You Need
First off, a great mint mojito should include just the right sweet simple syrup. To make mint simple syrup you, well, simply need water, granulated sugar, and fresh mint leaves. That’s it!
Now then, here is all that’s needed to make the best refreshing cocktail:
For the Mint Simple Syrup–
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves
For the Pitcher of Mojitos –
- White rum – like Bacardi (you do not need the most expensive/best rum) or use vodka in place of rum
- Mint simple syrup – or just traditional non-flavored simple syrup, if you prefer
- Lime juice – for that lovely sour bite to balance the sweetness of the syrup
- Club Soda – Soda water adds a bubbly kick for the most refreshing mojitos
- Ice Cubes
I also like to use some extra lime slices and mint leaves to garnish the glasses.
How to Make Mint Simple Syrup
You can purchase pre-made simple syrup from the store. However, a homemade simple syrup really makes this mojito recipe extra special. Give it a try and you’ll be sure to impress your guests with this incredibly easy recipe with great taste!
- Set a small saucepot over high heat, and add the water and sugar. Stir and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, stir again, then promptly remove from the heat.
- Then add the mint leaves, and allow the simple syrup to steep and cool for 30 minutes.
You can choose to leave in or strain-out out the mint leaves. I like to keep them in because they have a softer texture than fresh mint leaves. No muddler for mint muddling required!
