Sun Dog Diner Review – Neptune Beach, Florida

0

A beaches favorite in Northern Florida, this art deco diner serves an eclectic mix of American and tropical cuisine. Entrees range from the simple to the sublime, incorporating fresh Mayport shrimp and fish, chicken, pork, and beef or a combination thereof.

If you like thick, hot sandwiches – juicy hamburgers and Reubens, or heroes with a side of fries or onion rings, this is the place to be after a day of surfing the shore or skimming the sand. If you’re feeling especially in the mood to splurge, complement the belt-busting meal with a creamy milkshake guaranteed to clog the straws. At night, the place jumps with live entertainment and socializing in their trendy cigar room. As the place may seem compact, it’s best to be judicious when seating if you have a problem with smoke.

Brunch is a treat as well. Their blueberry oatmeal pancakes are legendary among Jacksonville’s fitness set. But you don’t have to be a runner or tri-athlete to enjoy them and the many omelets and egg dishes served up on weekends. One of the best things about the Sun Dog is that you can eat healthily or decadently depending on your fitness level and mood.

Located in Neptune Beach at 207 Atlantic Blvd (go another 100 yards and you’ll be in the ocean), the Sun Dog Diner is usually open daily for lunch and dinner while serving brunch on the weekends. Hours may vary with the season, so be sure to call ahead. They have a full bar and a small stage area for live music. Parking can be a problem on busy nights and on weekends, so wear comfortable shoes and enjoy a stroll along the beach before or after you dine.
