Two new staff associates joined the Statesman Journal newsroom on July 5 and are heading through instruction and finding up to velocity on their obligations right before settling into their new roles.
Jonathan Williams is the Statesman’s day-to-day news editor, overseeing breaking information and information of the day, meals and drink protection and functions material. Williams also will oversee the same for The Sign-up-Guard in Eugene. He is centered in Salem.
Williams most recently was the affiliate editor of The Astorian in Astoria, exactly where he assisted in editing and coordinating coverage and oversaw the production of an arts and leisure weekly and a weekly group newspaper.
A native of Astoria, Williams has a bachelor of arts from Linfield University and a master’s in journalism from the S.I. Newhouse College of General public Communications at Syracuse University.
“I’m enthusiastic to be a part of two fantastic newsrooms and am ready to do the job with equally groups in creating robust, neighborhood stories for readers,” Williams claimed. “I appear forward to getting to know the two cities and the encompassing Willamette Valley.”
In his spare time, Williams enjoys studying, swimming, biking and jogging.
Dejania Oliver, a recent graduate of Florida A&M University, is the Statesman Journal’s new breaking information reporter. She will go over public safety, courts and breaking news in and close to Salem, reporting to Williams.
Oliver had internships with CNN and the Tallahassee Democrat, which is owned by Gannett, as is the Statesman Journal. She moved to Salem in late June, driving across the state from Atlanta, in which she most lately lived.
“Getting a reporter is my desire work so I experience fortunate to have joined this amazing staff,” Oliver explained. “I’m thrilled to get to know the Salem group and notify impactful stories.”
The defeat was previously included by Virginia Barreda who transferred to the Des Moines Sign up, which also is owned by Gannett.
